Day 1 | Hong Kong to Zhaoxing Dong Village (High-speed train): Batik & Dong Culture

Accommodation Accommodation:
4-star/5-star standard room
MealMeal:
D (Dinner)

In the morning, you'll board the high-speed train from Hong Kong to Guilin. After a short transfer at Guilin West Station, continue your journey toward Congjiang, one of the gateways to Southeast Guizhou's ethnic villages. The train ride itself is part of the experience. As the city skyline disappears, the scenery slowly changes into rolling mountains, rivers, and rural landscapes — a preview of the authentic Guizhou countryside waiting ahead.

Upon arrival at Congjiang Station, our local guide and private driver will meet you at the station and escort you directly to Zhaoxing Dong Village. Having a dedicated local team means you don't need to worry about navigating mountain roads or coordinating transfers in remote areas; we take care of the details while you focus on enjoying the journey.

After arriving at Zhaoxing, one of the largest and most beautiful Dong villages in China, you'll begin your first cultural experience with a traditional batik workshop. Batik is an important part of Dong textile culture. During the experience, you'll learn how local artisans create patterns on fabric using traditional techniques passed down through generations. Rather than simply visiting a museum display, you'll have the chance to understand how these crafts remain connected to everyday village life.

As evening arrives, slow down and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of Zhaoxing. Wooden houses, stone pathways, and towering drum structures create a completely different rhythm from city life.

Tonight, you'll stay at a comfortable local-style hotel surrounded by rice fields, allowing you to wake up the next morning with views of the mountains and countryside.

Day 2 | Zhaoxing to Huanggang (Hiking & Private vehicle): Dong Villages & Rice Terraces

Accommodation Accommodation:
4-star/5-star standard room
MealMeal:
B (Breakfast)/L (Lunch)/D (Dinner)

Today is where your Guizhou hiking adventure truly begins. Instead of simply visiting villages by vehicle, you'll slow your pace and walk through the landscapes that have supported Dong communities for centuries.

After breakfast, you'll start a scenic mountain walk from Zhaoxing toward Tang'an Village. The trail gradually climbs through forests, tea plantations, and traditional farmland. Along the way, you'll pass through Xiage Village and walk alongside terraced fields carefully shaped by generations of local farmers. This is one of the best ways to understand Guizhou's rural landscape. The terraces are not just beautiful scenery — they represent a traditional relationship between mountain communities and nature, where every piece of land has been thoughtfully used. Our guide will walk with you throughout the route, sharing stories about Dong traditions, local agriculture, and village life. The pace is flexible, allowing you to stop for photos, rest breaks, or simply enjoy the quiet mountain environment. When you reach Xiage Village, you'll take a relaxing break with a coffee surrounded by terrace views — a simple but memorable moment that lets you appreciate the peaceful side of rural Guizhou.

After arriving at Tang'an, enjoy lunch featuring one of the region's local specialties — snail stewed chicken. This traditional dish combines fresh local ingredients with slow cooking methods commonly used in mountain villages. Sharing a meal here gives you a chance to experience the flavors of Guizhou beyond restaurant menus.

After lunch, your private vehicle will take you to Huanggang Dong Village, one of the most authentic Dong communities in the region. Unlike larger and more commercialized villages, Huanggang has preserved much of its traditional atmosphere. The wooden houses, drum towers, and village layout continue to reflect the Dong people's unique architectural style and community life.

Upon arrival, you'll be welcomed with a traditional ceremony before joining an evening celebration under the village drum tower. As the fire lights up and local villagers begin singing Dong songs, you'll experience something that cannot be recreated in a standard sightseeing tour — a genuine connection between visitors and the community.

Day 3 | Huanggang to Baiyan (Private vehicle & Hiking): Miao Culture & Xiangshuiyan Waterfall

Accommodation Accommodation:
4-star/5-star standard room
MealMeal:
B (Breakfast)/L (Lunch)/D (Dinner)

Today, you'll leave the Dong villages behind and continue deeper into Southeast Guizhou, where another fascinating ethnic culture awaits. The journey from the Dong communities to the Miao villages is not only a change of scenery but also an opportunity to see how different mountain communities have developed their own traditions, architecture, and ways of life. Our local guide will continue accompanying you throughout the day, helping you understand the stories behind each village instead of simply passing through as a visitor.

After breakfast, your private vehicle will take you from Huanggang into the Miao region. The road gradually winds through the mountains, passing valleys and traditional villages along the way. This transfer is more than just a way to reach the next destination — it gives you a glimpse into the remote landscapes where many Miao communities have lived for generations. Your destination is Langde Miao Village, a traditional Miao settlement surrounded by green mountains and rivers. Compared with larger and more commercialized ethnic villages, Langde still maintains many traditional customs. The wooden houses built along the hillside, the village pathways, and the open spaces where local residents gather all reflect the close relationship between the Miao people and their mountain environment.

Upon arrival, you'll experience one of the most memorable Miao traditions — the welcoming ceremony with twelve gates of Miao wine. As you enter the village, local hosts welcome guests with songs and rice wine, creating a lively introduction to Miao hospitality. This tradition is not simply a performance; it represents the importance of respect, friendship, and connection in Miao culture.

During your visit, you'll also enjoy traditional Miao songs and dances performed by local villagers. Through the music, costumes, and rhythms, you'll gain a deeper understanding of how Miao history and identity have been preserved through generations. Our guide will explain the meaning behind the performances, from the symbolism of traditional clothing to the stories carried through their songs. Rather than rushing from one attraction to another, you'll have time to observe village life — children playing in the lanes, elderly villagers chatting outside wooden houses, and local families continuing their daily routines.

In the afternoon, we'll continue by private vehicle to the starting point of the Xiangshuiyan Waterfall hike. The trail takes around 3 hours, including paved village roads and forest paths with stone steps and uphill sections. As you walk through the mountain forest, you'll experience another side of Guizhou — peaceful streams, fresh air, and landscapes far away from busy tourist routes. After reaching Xiangshuiyan Waterfall, enjoy a refreshing break surrounded by nature before heading to Baiyan for the evening.

After the hike, our driver will take you to Baiyan Village, where you'll stay in a comfortable local guesthouse and continue experiencing the quiet rhythm of mountain life.

Day 4 | Baiyan to Guiyang (Hiking & Private vehicle): Hidden Miao Village Adventure

Accommodation Accommodation:
4-star/5-star standard room
MealMeal:
B (Breakfast)/L (Lunch)/D (Dinner)

Today, you'll continue deeper into the Miao region and explore one of the most authentic parts of the journey — a remote village that can only be reached by mountain trails. Instead of visiting a typical tourist village, you'll slow down and experience the landscapes and traditions that have shaped local Miao communities for generations. Our guide will walk with you throughout the route, sharing stories about the villages, local customs, and the relationship between the Miao people and the mountains they call home.

After breakfast, we'll drive from Baiyan to Fangxiang, the starting point of today's hiking adventure. As the vehicle climbs through the mountain roads, you'll gradually leave the more accessible areas behind and enter a quieter part of Guizhou, where small villages are surrounded by forests, farmland, and rolling hills.

From Fangxiang, you'll begin a 9-kilometer mountain hike to Getou Miao Village. The trail takes around 4.5 hours and reaches an average elevation of about 800 meters. Along the way, you'll walk through peaceful mountain scenery, passing forests, farmland, and traditional landscapes that remain closely connected to local village life. This hike is not only about reaching the destination — the journey itself allows you to see a side of Guizhou that most visitors never experience. Away from crowded attractions, you'll encounter a slower pace of life, where villagers still maintain traditional farming practices and community connections. Our team will adjust the walking pace according to your group's condition, with enough time for rest stops and photo opportunities along the way.

After arriving at Getou, you'll enjoy lunch at a local family's home. Sharing a meal in a village house offers a more personal way to connect with the community. Instead of simply trying local dishes in a restaurant, you'll experience the everyday hospitality of the Miao people and learn more about their food traditions and rural lifestyle. After lunch, take some time to explore this peaceful mountain village before continuing the journey.

In the afternoon, we'll drive from Getou to Guiyang, the capital city of Guizhou. The contrast between the quiet mountain villages and the modern city creates a unique transition after several days of cultural exploration. Tonight, you'll enjoy a comfortable hotel stay in Guiyang, giving you time to rest before the final outdoor adventure of the journey.

Day 5 | Guiyang to Ditang (Private vehicle): Karst Forest Hiking & Cave Camping

Accommodation Accommodation:
A cave campsite built within the karst landscape
MealMeal:
B (Breakfast)/L (Lunch)/D (Dinner)

Today, you'll leave the city behind once again and head into the natural landscapes of southern Guizhou. After several days exploring Dong and Miao communities, the journey continues with the third ethnic group — the Buyi people.

After breakfast, we'll drive from Guiyang to Huishui, a county known for its dramatic karst landscapes and traditional Buyi communities. As the city gradually disappears behind you, the scenery changes into a world of limestone peaks, valleys, and rural villages. This is where you'll experience a quieter and more natural side of Guizhou.

Today's adventure begins with a 10-kilometer hike through the karst peak forest. The trail takes around 6 hours, with an average elevation of about 900 meters. Unlike the village walks of previous days, today's route focuses on Guizhou's unique geological landscape — towering limestone formations, forest paths, and hidden mountain scenery. Walking through this landscape allows you to understand why Guizhou is famous for its karst terrain. The mountains here were shaped over millions of years, creating the dramatic scenery that makes Southwest China so distinctive.

Along the way, you'll enjoy a picnic lunch surrounded by nature. Our guide will adjust the pace based on your group's condition, ensuring you have enough time to rest, take photos, and appreciate the peaceful environment.

By late afternoon, you'll arrive at your unique accommodation for the night — a cave campsite built within the karst landscape. This is one of the most memorable experiences of the entire journey. Instead of staying in a standard hotel, you'll spend the evening surrounded by mountains, experiencing a closer connection with Guizhou's natural environment. After settling in, enjoy a traditional Buyi-style dinner featuring clay pot stewed chicken, a local specialty prepared with simple ingredients and slow cooking techniques.

As night falls, join a campfire gathering with local Buyi villagers. Through conversations, music, and a relaxed village atmosphere, you'll experience the warmth and hospitality of the Buyi community.

Tonight's accommodation is a comfortable outdoor camping experience rather than a traditional hotel. The campsite provides basic facilities, including shared bathrooms, WiFi, toilets, tents with covers, and water facilities, allowing you to enjoy the adventure while maintaining essential comfort. For travelers looking for something beyond ordinary sightseeing, this night offers a rare chance to connect with Guizhou's landscapes and local culture in a truly memorable way.

Day 6 | Ditang to Guiyang (Private vehicle): Departure Transfer

Accommodation Accommodation:

Authentic Experiences on Our Guizhou Ethnic Hiking Tour

We were looking for a different side of China beyond the famous cities, and this Guizhou trip was exactly what we hoped for. Walking through the Dong villages, hearing traditional songs under the drum towers, and hiking through the rice terraces were unforgettable experiences. The route was very well planned — we never felt rushed, and every day brought something new. Our guide was knowledgeable and patient, especially when explaining the local customs and helping us communicate with villagers. It felt more like traveling with a local friend than joining a tour.

Questions About the Itinerary

Hello, the itinerary looks exactly like the kind of Guizhou experience we are looking for. We would love to explore the local villages and learn more about Miao and Dong culture instead of just visiting the popular attractions. I have a few questions before booking:
1. Since some villages seem quite remote, how comfortable is the transportation between each destination?
2. Will we have opportunities to interact with local people and experience the traditional ceremonies?

Combining Yangshuo Tour with Other Destinations

Hello, we are planning our China trip and would like to include Guilin and Yangshuo in our itinerary.
1. Is one day enough to see the highlights of Yangshuo?
2. Can this tour be combined with a visit to Longji Rice Terraces?
3. Would you recommend staying overnight in Yangshuo?

Hi Amara,
Thank you for your message! The ideal length of stay in Yangshuo depends on your travel style, but we're happy to share some suggestions.
1. A one-day trip is enough to experience the most iconic highlights, including the Yulong River scenery, West Street area, and countryside landscapes. It is a great option for travelers staying in Guilin with limited time.

2. Longji and Yangshuo are located in different directions, so combining both in one day would make the schedule too rushed. We usually recommend arranging them as separate day trips or adding an extra night.

3. If you have more time, staying overnight allows you to enjoy Yangshuo's relaxed evening atmosphere, local restaurants, and countryside scenery without rushing back to Guilin.

Questions About Sunrise, Photography & Best Hiking Route

Hi, I'm planning a trip to Huangshan and this itinerary looks exactly like what I'm looking for. I'm especially interested in sunrise photography and the mountain scenery. I have a few questions before booking:
1. Which sunrise viewpoint would you recommend if we stay overnight on Huangshan Mountain?
2. Does the itinerary include places like Bright Summit and Xihai Scenic Area?
3. How much hiking is involved each day? I'm comfortable walking but would prefer a route with the best views rather than the most difficult trails.
4. What time do we usually start the hike on the second day?

Hi Isolde,
Thank you for your message! We're glad to hear that you're interested in this Huangshan journey. Huangshan is one of the best destinations in China for sunrise and landscape photography, and we'd be happy to help you arrange a route that balances beautiful views and comfortable walking.
1. The sunrise viewpoint depends on your hotel location and weather conditions, but popular options include Bright Summit and areas near Beihai.
2. Yes, we can adjust the route according to your interests. Bright Summit is one of Huangshan’s classic viewpoints, while Xihai Scenic Area offers some of the most dramatic mountain landscapes. We can recommend the best combination based on your hiking preference and available time.
3. The hiking distance depends on the route selected. The classic Back Mountain route after taking the Yungu Cable Car is relatively comfortable, while some areas such as Xihai involve more stairs and longer walking. Our guide can help adjust the pace during the tour.
4. Usually, we recommend starting early to enjoy the quieter mountain atmosphere and better lighting for photography. The exact timing will depend on the sunrise time and weather conditions.

We hope you enjoy capturing the most beautiful moments of Huangshan!
