Grand East China Vacations: Shanghai, Suzhou, Hangzhou & Yellow Mountain

While the classic Beijing-Xi'an-Shanghai route shows you China's massive imperial monuments like the Great Wall and Terracotta Warriors, it only tells half the story. If you want to experience the other side of China—the poetic, deeply artistic heartland of mist-covered mountains, ancient water towns, and refined cultural life—this Shanghai-Suzhou-Hangzhou-Huangshan loop is the ultimate alternative. It swaps heavy concrete history for an immersive journey through China's most breathtaking living landscapes.

We re-engineered this grand loop to save you from the logistical nightmares of crossing three different provinces, turning a complex multi-city puzzle into a smooth, private expedition:

From Concrete Icons to Living Landscapes: Unlike the dry museum-heavy feel of the classic northern routes, this loop drops you right inside a living Chinese watercolor painting. You will row through Suzhou's 2,500-year-old willow-lined canals, hike through Hangzhou's quiet bamboo paths, and stand above the clouds on the granite peaks of Huangshan.

The Ultimate Lifestyle Contrast: This itinerary isn't just about sightseeing; it's about sensory experiences. We seamlessly balance high-energy metropolitan life with moments of total peace—pairing luxury Shanghai shopping and dining with morning tea-tastings with local farmers and quiet sunset walks along ancient temple walls.

Seamless, No-Stress Logistics: Crossing three provinces on your own usually means fighting for sold-out bullet train tickets and dragging heavy bags through massive train terminals. We handle every single inter-city transfer, luggage connection, and mountain transit pass behind the scenes, ensuring you only focus on the journey.

Browse our private Shanghai Suzhou Hangzhou Huangshan tours below, select a framework that fits your timeline, and let us customize this epic loop to your exact travel style.

Traditional stilt?houses and wind?rain bridge in Guizhou Miao village, surrounded by green mountains

Hello, the itinerary looks exactly like the kind of Guizhou experience we are looking for. We would love to explore the local villages and learn more about Miao and Dong culture instead of just visiting the popular attractions. I have a few questions before booking:
1. Since some villages seem quite remote, how comfortable is the transportation between each destination?
2. Will we have opportunities to interact with local people and experience the traditional ceremonies?

Hello, we are planning our China trip and would like to include Guilin and Yangshuo in our itinerary.
1. Is one day enough to see the highlights of Yangshuo?
2. Can this tour be combined with a visit to Longji Rice Terraces?
3. Would you recommend staying overnight in Yangshuo?

Hi, I'm planning a trip to Huangshan and this itinerary looks exactly like what I'm looking for. I'm especially interested in sunrise photography and the mountain scenery. I have a few questions before booking:
1. Which sunrise viewpoint would you recommend if we stay overnight on Huangshan Mountain?
2. Does the itinerary include places like Bright Summit and Xihai Scenic Area?
3. How much hiking is involved each day? I'm comfortable walking but would prefer a route with the best views rather than the most difficult trails.
4. What time do we usually start the hike on the second day?

We booked this tour because my mother wanted to buy a pearl necklace, and we didn’t feel confident going to Zhuji on our own. The journey from Hangzhou was very easy, and we appreciated being picked up directly from our hotel. The pearl market was huge with so many choices, from simple everyday jewelry to more elegant pieces. We enjoyed taking our time to look around instead of being rushed.

August 5, 2026
Hi, we are interested in this Shanghai to Xidi & Hongcun day trip and would like to know more details before booking.
1. Is it realistic to visit both Xidi and Hongcun in one day from Shanghai? We are worried that too much time will be spent on transportation.
2. How much free time will we have in each village?
3. Is the walking route difficult? My parents will travel with us, and they can walk but prefer a relaxed pace.
Thank you for your advice!

Hello! I have a layover in Chongqing August the 7th. My plane arrives at 15:30 and leaves at 02:50 in the night (August the 8th) so i'm only for the night in chongqing. I was wondering if it was possible to book a driver from and to the airport true your services. Maybe if its possible also some sightseeing but mostly free time to explore hongya Dong by walking.
Let me know if it's possible on such a short notice and what the price would be for a solo traveller.
Thank you!

August 5, 2026
We had a wonderful day exploring Zhangjiajie with BUER China Travel. As a middle-aged traveler from Southeast Asia, I was a little worried that the mountain routes might be too tiring, but everything was arranged very smoothly. Our guide was patient, friendly, and always helped us find the best viewpoints and take beautiful photos. Thank you for creating such a memorable journey for us. We truly enjoyed every moment and would highly recommend this tour to friends visiting China.

This was our first time visiting Xishuangbanna, and this tour gave us a wonderful introduction to the region.
The rainforest scenery was beautiful, and we especially enjoyed visiting the Dai villages and learning about their traditions.
Our guide Lily was fantastic — she explained the culture in a very interesting way and always adjusted the pace when we needed a break.
The whole trip felt relaxed and well organized.

Hello, we are interested in this Xishuangbanna tour because we really want to experience the rainforest and local Dai culture.
We have a few questions before booking:
1. Is Wangtianshu Rainforest suitable for people who are not experienced hikers?
2. How difficult is the canopy walkway? Is it safe?
3. Will we have enough time to enjoy the scenery and take photos?
Thank you!

August 4, 2026
This was one of the best decisions we made during our Shanghai stay. Nanjing was completely different from Shanghai, and our guide Kevin showed us another side of China. He knew the best photo spots at Ming Xiaoling and even recommended a quiet corner away from the crowds. The organization from hotel pickup in Shanghai to the return transfer was perfect.

Hello, we are traveling with my parents and we have some safety concerns about Jade Dragon Snow Mountain.
1. If my parents feel uncomfortable at higher altitude or decide not to take the cable car to Glacier Park, is there a place where they can rest while waiting for us?
2. Could the driver take them to Ganhaizi Meadow for a walk while we visit Glacier Park?

This trip exceeded our expectations. We originally booked because of Zhangjiajie, but Jiuzhaigou became our favorite part. The colors of the lakes and mountains were unbelievable. Everything from booking to the final airport transfer was handled professionally.

The scenery at Longji was breathtaking, especially with the clouds around the mountains in the morning. Our guide Leo was the highlight of the trip. He was professional but also felt like a friend traveling with us. He shared local stories, recommended good viewpoints, and took many great photos for our family. The company was also very responsive when we changed our pickup location last minute. Really appreciated the flexibility.

This was one of our favorite experiences during our China trip. The scenery was amazing, but the service made the journey even better.
Guide: Our guide Kevin was fantastic. He knew the best viewpoints, shared interesting local stories, and always adjusted the pace based on what we wanted to do.
Team: The communication before arrival was excellent. They answered all our questions patiently and helped us understand what to expect, especially regarding Longji hiking and the Li River Cruise.
Service: Everything was professional and reliable. The driver was always on time, the car was comfortable, and all arrangements were handled smoothly.
A great choice if you prefer a private and personalized travel experience.

Shiziguan Floating Bridge in Enshi with a winding water walkway, turquoise river, misty mountains, and lush forest scenery
Linda M
July 30, 2026
joined this Enshi private tour mainly because I love landscape photography, and it turned out to be one of the most rewarding trips I have taken in China. The scenery was absolutely stunning, especially the turquoise waters and reflections at Pingshan Grand Canyon. I spent a lot of time taking photos there because every angle looked like a painting.

Enshi Grand Canyon was another highlight. The dramatic cliffs, misty mountains, and unique rock formations were incredible, and our guide helped us find the best viewpoints for photography. I also really enjoyed Shiziguan and Suobuya Stone Forest, which showed a completely different side of China's natural beauty.

The whole arrangement was smooth and comfortable. The driver was reliable, the hotel was nice, and the guide was patient and knowledgeable. As a middle-aged traveler carrying camera equipment, I appreciated that the pace was well organized and not rushed. This tour gave me many unforgettable memories and beautiful photos to bring home. Highly recommended for anyone who loves nature and photography!

Hi, we are interested in this tour but have some questions before booking. My parents are traveling with us and they are in their late 60s. Is Huangshan suitable for seniors? Do we need to do a lot of hiking?
Interior of a China high-speed train business class cabin with spacious seats and comfortable travel facilities
William Harrington
July 30, 2026
This was one of the most thoughtfully arranged private journeys we have experienced in China. From the moment we arrived, every detail was handled with great professionalism, from the airport welcome to the private transfers and carefully selected hotels.

We especially appreciated the relaxed pace of the itinerary. Instead of rushing from one attraction to another, we had time to truly enjoy each experience — from watching pandas in the quiet morning, enjoying traditional tea culture in Chengdu, to admiring the breathtaking views of Chongqing's skyline at night.

The restaurant selections were excellent, and the Sichuan dining experiences were some of the highlights of our trip. The VIP performance arrangements were also a wonderful touch and gave us a deeper appreciation of local culture.

The business-class high-speed train, five-star accommodations, and attentive private guide made the entire journey effortless. This was not just a sightseeing tour, but a beautifully curated cultural experience. We would highly recommend it to travelers looking for a comfortable and refined way to discover Southwest China.
