6 DAYS

This exclusive 6-day niche private custom tour focuses on the Ancient Shu Silk Road, a hidden treasure route of the ancient Silk Road that connects Guanzhong and Bashu. Spanning four core cultural cities: Xi'an, Hanzhong, Guangyuan and Chengdu, the route perfectly links four thematic cores — perilous Qinling ancient plank roads, well-preserved Three Kingdoms historical relics, exquisite Jialing River grotto art, and the prosperous cultural landscape of Chengdu, the Land of Abundance. Following a scientific east-to-west non-backtracking geographic route, we arrange exclusive private cars and professional certified guides throughout the journey. Long-distance cross-city transfers are reasonably segmented with rest stops to eliminate northwest-Sichuan travel fatigue. All pedestrian routes are labor-saving and optimized, avoiding crowded mainstream scenic spots while digging into profound niche history and culture. The itinerary balances dangerous ancient road landscapes, profound human relics and leisurely urban customs, presenting a unique and in-depth ancient Shu Silk Road exploration experience.

Day 1 | Xi’an: Ancient City Wall · Bell & Drum Tower · Muslim Quarter

Accommodation Accommodation:
4 star/5 star hotel/botique hotel (can be customized)
MealMeal:
Meals are flexible and can be included or excluded. When included, authentic local dining will be arranged.

After your arrival, we provide exclusive private car pick-up and luxury hotel check-in service. As the eastern starting point of the Ancient Shu Silk Road, Xi'an connects the Guanzhong Plain in the north and the Bashu Corridor in the south. Today we arrange a relaxed urban cultural tour to lay a foundation for the subsequent in-depth exploration of the ancient road. We adopt a flat and compact urban closed-loop route with gentle walking intensity, allowing you to adapt to the travel rhythm and feel the historical origin of the Qinling-Shu Road corridor.

Our private car drops you off directly at the South Gate of Xi'an Ancient City Wall, avoiding redundant walking and parking troubles. As the core starting symbol of the ancient road transportation system connecting Guanzhong and Bashu, the well-preserved millennium city wall carries the historical memory of merchants and messengers traveling south to Shu in ancient times. Stepping onto the flat and wide wall top, you can overlook the complete pattern of the ancient capital. The neat grey-tile ancient blocks inside the city and the modern urban landscape outside form a distinct contrast. Walking slowly along the ramparts, the gentle wind blows through the crenellations, allowing you to imagine the prosperous scene of the ancient Shu Silk Road starting from Chang'an, crossing the Qinling Mountains and stretching to Bashu.

After the city wall visit, we take a casual flat walk to Bell and Drum Tower Square for seamless route transition. Located in the geometric center of the ancient city, the twin towers witness the thousand-year transportation and cultural exchanges between the north and the south. The towering ancient wooden buildings with exquisite painted brackets and layered eaves present the grand craftsmanship of traditional Chinese architecture. Standing in the square, you can feel the integration of ancient and modern styles, and understand the core status of Chang'an as the starting hub of the multi-branch Silk Road in ancient times.

We continue a short leisure stroll to the Muslim Quarter, naturally switching from ancient architectural appreciation to folk food experience. The antique alleys are lined with time-honored shops and folk craft stores. We select reputable local old stores to avoid tourist traps, where you can taste authentic Guanzhong snacks. The lively street atmosphere and inclusive folk culture fully interpret the open and diverse cultural genes of the ancient Silk Road starting point, perfectly ending the relaxed opening day of the journey.

Day 2 | Xi’an to Hanzhong by High-speed Train: Shimen Plank Road · Shimen Reservoir

Accommodation Accommodation:
4 star/5 star hotel/botique hotel (can be customized)
MealMeal:
Meals are flexible and can be included or excluded. When included, authentic local dining will be arranged.

We depart from Xi'an by high-speed train for a cross-city journey to Hanzhong, the core throat of the Ancient Shu Silk Road. We cross the majestic Qinling Mountains along the way, with segmented driving and reserved rest stops to effectively relieve long-distance riding fatigue. Today's core theme is Qinling Ancient Plank Road Culture, adopting a scientific zero-detour route focusing on Shimen Plank Road, the most well-preserved ancient plank road relic in China. The whole route integrates dangerous ancient road relics and quiet mountain water scenery, with a relaxed and layered sightseeing rhythm.

The private car arrives directly at the scenic area parking lot, saving long-distance walking. We follow the official labor-saving pedestrian route, moving from the reservoir waterfront to the cliff plank road, conforming to the natural terrain and avoiding repeated climbing fatigue. Entering the scenic area, you will first see the vast and clear Shimen Reservoir, with green mountain ridges surrounding the rippling water surface. The quiet mountain and water scenery relaxes your body and mind after crossing the Qinling Mountains, forming a gentle transition for ancient road exploration.

Walking along the flat waterfront plank road forward, you will gradually approach the core cliff relics of Shimen Plank Road. Attached to the steep Qinling cliff, the residual plank road frames and ancient road traces are clearly visible, perfectly reproducing the grand project of "plank roads built along cliffs" in ancient times. Walking slowly on the renovated safe viewing plank road, you can overlook the deep mountain valley and winding ancient road, truly feeling the perilous terrain of the Qinling Shu Road that "even gods find it hard to pass". The cliffs are also engraved with precious Han Dynasty stone inscriptions, with elegant and powerful calligraphy, known as the treasure of ancient cliff calligraphy, carrying the thousand-year cultural heritage of the Qinling Shu Road.

The whole sightseeing route progresses from landscape leisure to cultural exploration, with smooth transition and no redundant backtracking. You can not only appreciate the magnificent natural scenery of the Qinling Mountains, but also deeply understand the extremely important transportation status of Shimen Plank Road on the northern section of the Ancient Shu Silk Road, experiencing the wisdom and perseverance of ancient road builders.

Day 3 | Hanzhong: Ancient Han Terrace · Wuhou Shrine · Dingjun Mountain

Accommodation Accommodation:
4 star/5 star hotel/botique hotel (can be customized)
MealMeal:
Meals are flexible and can be included or excluded. When included, authentic local dining will be arranged.

Today we conduct an in-depth exploration of Hanzhong Three Kingdoms Culture, the core humanistic essence of the Ancient Shu Silk Road. We adopt a perfectly connected zero-detour closed-loop route: Ancient Han Terrace → Wuhou Shrine → Dingjun Mountain. The three scenic spots are closely connected with short transfers, progressing from urban Han culture relics to Three Kingdoms celebrity temples and ancient battlefields. The route is flat and reasonable, avoiding physical fatigue, and fully presenting the profound military and cultural heritage of Hanzhong as a crucial Three Kingdoms strategic town on the Ancient Shu Road.

We start the day's tour at Ancient Han Terrace, the origin landmark of Hanzhong's history and culture. The private car drops us off directly at the gate, eliminating extra walking. As the core relic of Liu Bang's founding base in the late Qin and early Han dynasties, the scenic area retains the ancient courtyard layout of the Han Dynasty. Entering the quiet courtyard, towering ancient cypresses, antique pavilions and terraces come into view one after another. Wandering along the flat stone paths, you can appreciate ancient stele inscriptions and architectural relics, feeling the long-standing Han civilization heritage rooted in this Bashu gateway city.

After visiting Ancient Han Terrace, we take a short flat drive to Wuhou Shrine, the most prestigious Zhuge Liang memorial temple in Hanzhong. Different from the noisy urban scenic spots, the whole shrine is hidden among lush forests, with a quiet and solemn atmosphere. Walking into the layered courtyards, ancient halls, stone stele corridors and towering ancient trees create a strong historical sense. The well-preserved ancient buildings and cultural relics record Zhuge Liang's lifelong strategic deeds of managing Bashu and marching north from Hanzhong. Strolling slowly in the shrine, you can deeply perceive the profound Three Kingdoms cultural connotation accumulated here for thousands of years.

We continue a seamless short transfer to Dingjun Mountain, the famous ancient battlefield of the Three Kingdoms. Adopting a low-difficulty leisure hiking route with gentle slopes and complete safety guardrails, it is friendly for all-age sightseeing. Walking uphill along the tree-lined stone path, the overlapping mountain ridges and dense forests come into view. Standing on the battlefield viewing platform, you can overlook the vast valley terrain, reproducing the grand scene of the fierce Dingjun Mountain battle in the Three Kingdoms period. As an important military pass on the Ancient Shu Silk Road, Dingjun Mountain witnesses the strategic struggles and cultural exchanges between Qin and Shu, perfectly completing today's in-depth Three Kingdoms relics exploration.

Day 4 | Hanzhong to Guangyuan by High-speed Train: Huangze Temple · Qianfo Cliff

Accommodation Accommodation:
4 star/5 star hotel/botique hotel (can be customized)
MealMeal:
Meals are flexible and can be included or excluded. When included, authentic local dining will be arranged.

We depart from Hanzhong by high-speed train to Guangyuan, the key gateway of northern Sichuan on the Ancient Shu Silk Road. The cross-city route runs along the Jialing River valley with smooth road conditions, and we arrange mid-way rest stops to ensure a comfortable riding experience. Today's core theme is Shu Road Grotto Art, adopting a scientific riverside non-backtracking route: Huangze Temple first, then Qianfo Cliff. The two scenic spots are adjacent along the river, perfectly combining unique royal Buddhist culture and cliff grotto carving art, forming a rare Jialing River corridor cultural landscape belt and filling the niche grotto art experience of the Ancient Shu Road route.

The private car arrives at Huangze Temple first, the only royal temple in China dedicated to Wu Zetian. Built against the Jialing River cliff, the whole temple enjoys superior terrain and elegant scenery. Entering the scenic area along the flat riverside path, you will first see layered ancient temple buildings with exquisite structural details and simple and grand architectural style. Wandering through the quiet courtyards, you can appreciate precious ancient Buddha statues, mural relics and stone carvings. Integrated with mountain, river and temple scenery, Huangze Temple carries unique Sui and Tang royal Buddhist culture, presenting a distinctive religious and cultural style different from inland grottoes.

After finishing the visit to Huangze Temple, we take a 5-minute ultra-short riverside drive to Qianfo Cliff, realizing zero-detour seamless connection. Known as the "Cliff Art Gallery on Jialing River", this scenic spot features thousands of ancient grottoes carved on the red sandstone cliff along the river. We walk along the flat riverside viewing plank road with a wide field of vision and no strenuous climbing. Walking slowly forward, dense grotto niches and Buddha statues of different sizes come into view layer by layer. The well-preserved carvings from Sui, Tang and Song dynasties have soft lines and vivid expressions, reflecting the peak level of Bashu grotto art. The integration of flowing river water, red cliff landforms and ancient Buddha statues forms a shocking and elegant unique landscape, fully interpreting the inclusive artistic charm of the Ancient Shu Silk Road.

Day 5 | Guangyuan: Jianmen Pass · Cuiyun Corridor · Zhaohua Ancient City

Accommodation Accommodation:
4 star/5 star hotel/botique hotel (can be customized)
MealMeal:
Meals are flexible and can be included or excluded. When included, authentic local dining will be arranged.

Today we focus on the most classic core landscape of the Ancient Shu Silk Road — the perilous Shu Road. We adopt a perfect closed-loop sightseeing route with zero backtracking: Jianmen Pass → Cuiyun Corridor → Zhaohua Ancient City. The three scenic spots are closely connected with short transfers, with distinct landscape layers: grand dangerous pass military relics, ancient cypress forest road scenery and thousand-year ancient city customs. The whole day's itinerary is full and layered, perfectly interpreting the famous historical reputation of "Jianmen is the most dangerous pass under heaven".

We first arrive at Jianmen Pass by private car, the core throat of the Ancient Shu Road. The private car parks at the scenic core area to minimize walking distance. We choose the optimized labor-saving sightseeing route, avoiding crowded steep hiking paths, and move along the gentle official viewing passage. Entering the scenic area, you will be shocked by the towering overlapping mountain ridges and the narrow pass clamped between two steep peaks. Walking slowly along the ancient pass road, the solid rammed earth pass city walls and ancient beacon relics come into view. Standing on the pass platform, you can overlook the endless rolling mountains, truly experiencing the grandeur and perilousness of the northern Sichuan gateway that has been a strategic military fortress since ancient times.

After visiting Jianmen Pass, we take a 10-minute short drive to Cuiyun Corridor, a well-preserved ancient post road forest belt on the Jinniu Ancient Road. The whole scenic area has flat and shady stone paths, solving the pain point of sun exposure and walking fatigue. Walking into the corridor, towering ancient cypresses on both sides stand tall, with dense branches and leaves covering the sky, forming a natural green corridor stretching for miles. The well-preserved ancient road traces and thousand-year-old cypresses carry the vicissitudes of the Ancient Shu Silk Road's post road transportation, presenting a quiet and primitive natural and historical atmosphere.

We continue a seamless transfer to Zhaohua Ancient City, the well-preserved thousand-year-old Three Kingdoms ancient city. Transitioning from dangerous mountain passes and ancient forest roads to ancient city humanistic customs, the sightseeing rhythm is relaxed and comfortable. Walking into the ancient city along the flat bluestone street, antique city gates, ancient streets, government offices and cultural relic yards come into view one after another. Wandering slowly along the quiet alleys, you can feel the simple and leisurely ancient city atmosphere, watch local folk customs, and taste authentic Guangyuan special snacks. As an important post station and military town on the Ancient Shu Silk Road, Zhaohua Ancient City perfectly records the prosperous transportation and trade scene of the ancient Shu Road.

Day 6 | Guangyuan to Chengdu by High-speed Train: Chengdu Museum · Wuhou Shrine · Jinli Ancient Street

Accommodation Accommodation:
4 star/5 star hotel/botique hotel (can be customized)
MealMeal:
Meals are flexible and can be included or excluded. When included, authentic local dining will be arranged.

On the final day of the Ancient Shu Silk Road journey, we travel from Guangyuan to Chengdu by high-speed train, the core hinterland of Bashu and the famous Land of Abundance. We arrange a relaxed and in-depth urban cultural tour with all flat pedestrian routes, no mountain climbing or long-distance fatigue, perfectly adapting to the pre-departure physical state. We follow the progressive route: Chengdu Museum → Wuhou Shrine  Jinli Ancient Street, completing the cultural closed loop from ancient road exploration to Bashu civilization summary, making the whole journey profound and complete.

After arriving in Chengdu, we first head to Chengdu Museum, the core finishing spot of the whole trip. As a comprehensive museum displaying ancient Shu civilization and Bashu history, it collects a large number of precious Shu cultural relics, bronze artifacts, ancient road documents and Silk Road cultural relics. Wandering through the exhibition halls in orderly sequence, we systematically review the Qinling plank road culture, Three Kingdoms military relics, Jialing River grotto art and Shu Road transportation civilization experienced in the previous five days. The in-depth visit sorts out the complete historical context of the Ancient Shu Silk Road, realizing the sublimation of travel cognition.

Leaving the museum, we take a short flat walk to Chengdu Wuhou Shrine and Jinli Ancient Street, naturally transitioning from cultural relic review to folk custom experience. Different from the mountain-style Wuhou Shrine in Hanzhong, Chengdu Wuhou Shrine is located in the urban core, with exquisite courtyard layout, dense ancient cypresses and numerous stele relics, inheriting the profound Three Kingdoms cultural heritage of Bashu. Wandering in the shrine, you can feel the eternal cultural charm of Zhuge Liang's loyalty and wisdom.

Walking out of the shrine, you arrive at Jinli Ancient Street, the most characteristic Bashu folk custom block. The antique streets are lined with Sichuan-style wooden buildings, time-honored snack shops and folk craft stores. Strolling along the bluestone roads, you can watch Sichuan opera face-changing performances, taste authentic Sichuan snacks such as hot pot, spicy tofu pudding and sugar-fried chestnuts, and experience the leisurely and prosperous folk customs of the Land of Abundance. It perfectly complements the dangerous ancient road and solemn relic scenery of the previous days, presenting the diverse charm of the Ancient Shu Silk Road from perilous mountains to prosperous plains.

After the sightseeing, our exclusive private car will transfer you to Chengdu Shuangliu Airport, Tianfu Airport or Chengdu Railway Station according to your travel plan. This 6-day niche Ancient Shu Silk Road high-end private customized tour comes to a perfect end with a complete cultural closed loop.

A peaceful escape from Hangzhou

We wanted to visit Putuo Mountain but were worried about the complicated transportation connections from Hangzhou. This private tour made everything much easier. The driver picked us up from our hotel in the morning, helped us with the ferry transfer, and explained what to expect before arriving on the island. Putuo Mountain itself was beautiful and peaceful. Walking through the temples surrounded by trees and hearing the ocean nearby was a very special experience. We never felt rushed, which made the trip much more enjoyable.

Questions about Putuo Island

Hi, I'm interested in this private tour because we would like to experience the cultural side of Putuo Island rather than just visit the famous spots. I have a few questions:
1. Are the temples on Putuo Island very crowded? Is there a better time of day to visit them?
2. Do we need to follow any special rules when visiting Buddhist temples?
3. Will we have time to enjoy the seaside scenery, or is the itinerary mainly focused on temples?

Hi Caelan,
Thank you for your questions! We really appreciate that you are interested in experiencing the deeper cultural side of Putuo Island. It is not only a Buddhist destination but also a beautiful island with forests, beaches, and coastal scenery.
1. The main temples, especially Puji Temple, can become busy during weekends and holiday periods. To provide a better experience, our guide will usually arrange the sightseeing order according to crowd levels and opening times, allowing you to enjoy quieter moments whenever possible.
2. There are no strict requirements for visitors, but we recommend dressing respectfully and keeping a quieter atmosphere inside the temples. Our guide will also explain some local customs and interesting stories behind the temples, making the visit more meaningful.
3. Absolutely. Besides temples, Putuo Island is famous for its beautiful coastline and natural landscapes. We will include time for seaside walks, scenic viewpoints, and relaxed moments by the ocean, so the experience is not only cultural but also enjoyable.

We would be happy to help you discover a more authentic side of Putuo Island!

One of the best nature trips we have taken in China

Guizhou was a fantastic choice for travelers who want something different from the usual China itinerary. Libo Xiaoqikong was like a natural paradise — clear rivers, waterfalls, and green forests everywhere.
The communication before the trip was excellent. The team answered our questions quickly and helped us prepare for the journey. During the tour, everything was organized but still felt flexible and personal.

A wonderful journey

We traveled as a family and were impressed by how smoothly everything was arranged. The route included beautiful landscapes but was not too exhausting. My favorite part was probably the evening in Huanggang Village. It was very different from the places we had visited before — quiet, traditional, and welcoming. We really enjoyed learning about Dong culture from our guide.
Thank you for making our Guizhou trip so comfortable and memorable.
