Your Shanghai adventure begins with a private pickup service from your hotel, airport, or train station, depending on your arrival schedule. Your guide and driver will meet you at the arranged location, help with your luggage if needed, and make sure your first moments in Shanghai are smooth and stress-free.
Instead of rushing between attractions, we design the route at a comfortable pace, allowing you to truly experience the contrast between Shanghai's historic roots and its modern skyline.
Our first stop is Yu Garden, one of Shanghai's most beautiful classical gardens and the perfect introduction to the city's traditional side. As you walk through the entrance, you'll immediately feel a different atmosphere from the busy streets outside. Elegant pavilions, peaceful ponds, zigzag bridges, and carefully arranged rockeries create a quiet corner hidden in the heart of downtown Shanghai. Your local guide will bring the garden to life by sharing the stories behind its design, including how it was built during the Ming Dynasty and how traditional Chinese garden elements represent harmony between nature, architecture, and philosophy. You'll also discover small details that are easy to miss when exploring on your own, from symbolic decorations to hidden viewpoints perfect for photos.
After visiting Yu Garden, we'll take a short walk to the nearby City God Temple area, one of the most traditional neighborhoods in central Shanghai. Here, old streets, local snack shops, and historic buildings offer a glimpse into everyday Shanghai life. It's a great place to see how the city preserves its cultural heritage while continuing to move forward.
Around lunchtime, your guide will take you to a carefully selected local restaurant for an authentic Shanghai meal. Rather than simply choosing a tourist restaurant, we'll help you experience local flavors based on your preferences. You can try classic Shanghai dishes such as xiaolongbao (soup dumplings), Shanghai-style braised pork, stir-fried river shrimp, or local noodles, with recommendations from your guide along the way.
After lunch, continue your journey to Nanjing Road, Shanghai's most famous commercial street and a symbol of the city's modern lifestyle. Walking along this lively avenue, you'll see a fascinating mix of old and new Shanghai — historic department stores standing alongside modern shopping malls, colorful neon signs, and locals enjoying their daily routines. Your guide will share interesting stories about how Nanjing Road developed from a traditional shopping street into one of China's most famous urban landmarks.
From Nanjing Road, we'll continue to the iconic Bund, Shanghai's most recognizable waterfront area. Standing beside the Huangpu River, you'll enjoy the city's most famous contrast: the elegant European-style buildings of the former international settlement on one side and the futuristic skyscrapers of Pudong on the other. Take a relaxing walk along the riverside promenade while your guide explains how Shanghai grew from a small trading port into a global financial center. The Bund is especially beautiful in the late afternoon when the sunlight softens the historic buildings and the skyline across the river begins to glow.
To finish your first day, we'll head to Shanghai Tower, the tallest building in China and one of the world's highest observation decks. Take the high-speed elevator to the observation level and enjoy breathtaking 360-degree views over Shanghai. From above, you'll see the winding Huangpu River, the historic Bund, and the endless cityscape stretching into the distance. It's the perfect place to appreciate how Shanghai has transformed from its historic waterfront beginnings into a modern global metropolis.
After the visit, your private driver will transfer you safely back to your hotel. You can relax after a full day of exploring while we take care of the city transportation and logistics.
After breakfast, your guide and driver will pick you up from your hotel and continue exploring another side of Shanghai — a city constantly balancing its history with future development.
Your morning visit is the Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Center, a fascinating place to understand how Shanghai has transformed over the past decades. Instead of simply looking at buildings from the outside, this visit allows you to see the bigger picture: how Shanghai expanded from a traditional riverside city into a modern international metropolis. The highlight here is the impressive city model, showing Shanghai's urban layout in incredible detail. Your guide will help you understand the stories behind Shanghai's development, including its transportation network, skyline planning, and future vision. This stop is especially interesting because after seeing the city yesterday from streets and viewpoints, today you'll understand the planning and ideas behind what makes Shanghai unique.
After the exhibition, we'll take you to enjoy lunch at a carefully selected local restaurant. Your guide will help you choose dishes that match your taste, giving you another opportunity to experience Shanghai's food culture beyond typical tourist restaurants.
In the afternoon, we'll head to Tianzifang, one of Shanghai's most charming creative neighborhoods. Hidden inside the former French Concession area, Tianzifang is a maze of narrow lanes, old Shikumen-style houses, art studios, cafés, and boutique shops. Unlike modern shopping streets, Tianzifang keeps the feeling of everyday Shanghai life. As you walk through the small alleys, you'll see local residents living alongside artists and designers, creating a unique mix of old and new. Your guide will take you beyond the crowded main lanes and show you interesting corners, small galleries, and photo spots that are easy to miss if you explore alone. It's a relaxing way to finish your Shanghai journey — enjoying the city at a slower pace and experiencing the atmosphere of local neighborhoods.
At the end of the tour, we'll provide a comfortable transfer back to your hotel, train station, or airport according to your next travel plan. If you need help arranging your onward journey, our team will also be happy to assist.
