Welcome to Shanghai! Upon your arrival at Shanghai airport or train station, your private guide and driver will meet you at the pickup point and help you with your luggage. Instead of rushing into the busy city, we'll take you directly to Zhouzhuang, one of the most beautiful ancient water towns in Jiangnan.
The drive from Shanghai to Zhouzhuang takes around 1.5–2 hours. During the journey, your guide will introduce the history of Jiangnan water towns and share interesting local stories, helping you understand why these small towns became symbols of traditional Chinese beauty.
After arriving at Zhouzhuang, enjoy a relaxed lunch at a local restaurant where you can try Jiangnan specialties such as Wansan pork, white fish from Taihu Lake, and seasonal local dishes.
In the afternoon, you'll slowly explore the ancient town with your guide. Unlike larger commercial attractions, Zhouzhuang still preserves its original waterway layout, stone bridges, and traditional houses built along the canals. Walking beside the quiet rivers, you'll see locals living beside the water just as they have for generations.
As evening arrives, Zhouzhuang reveals a completely different atmosphere. Red lanterns light up the old streets, reflections dance on the canals, and small boats pass quietly under ancient bridges. Your guide will take you to the best viewpoints for photography and help you avoid the busiest areas.
After enjoying the night scenery, we'll transfer you to your carefully selected hotel inside or near Zhouzhuang, allowing you to experience the peaceful atmosphere after most visitors leave.
After breakfast at your hotel, your private driver will pick you up and continue your journey from Zhouzhuang to Suzhou by private car. The drive takes about 1 hour, offering beautiful views of the Jiangnan countryside along the way.
Upon arrival in Suzhou, we'll start with Tiger Hill (Hu Qiu), known as the "No.1 Scenic Spot in Suzhou." This historic hill combines natural beauty with more than 2,500 years of history. Your guide will share stories about ancient Suzhou, including the legends surrounding the leaning Yunyan Pagoda and the mysterious sword pool.
Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant featuring authentic Suzhou cuisine. Suzhou food is famous for its delicate flavors, fresh ingredients, and elegant presentation. Your guide will help you choose dishes that match your taste.
In the afternoon, continue to Pingjiang Road Historic District, one of the best-preserved ancient neighborhoods in Suzhou. Unlike a typical shopping street, Pingjiang Road allows you to experience the real rhythm of old Suzhou. You can walk along the canal, visit traditional courtyard houses, enjoy local snacks, or simply watch boats slowly passing by. Your guide will also introduce some hidden corners away from the crowds, where you can capture beautiful photos and experience the poetic lifestyle that inspired generations of Chinese artists.
After sightseeing, your driver will take you back to your hotel in Suzhou.
Today is dedicated to discovering the artistic soul of Suzhou — its world-famous classical gardens. After hotel pickup, your guide will take you to Humble Administrator's Garden, the largest and most famous garden in Suzhou. Walking through the garden, you'll discover how Chinese gardeners created a miniature landscape combining water, rocks, plants, and architecture. Your guide will explain the philosophy behind traditional Chinese garden design and show you details that are easy to miss, such as framed views, hidden pathways, and carefully arranged scenery.
After lunch at a local restaurant, continue to Lion Grove Garden, famous for its unique rock formations and maze-like pathways. Compared with Humble Administrator's Garden, Lion Grove Garden feels more playful and artistic, making it a fascinating contrast.
Later, visit a local silk culture experience or traditional craft area to learn why Suzhou became known as the "Silk Capital of China." You'll discover how silk is produced and understand its importance in Chinese history.
In the late afternoon, enjoy a comfortable transfer back to your hotel.
Continue exploring Suzhou today with a slower-paced cultural journey.
After breakfast, visit Hanshan Temple, one of China's most famous Buddhist temples. The temple became widely known because of the ancient poem "A Night Mooring by Maple Bridge," which describes the sound of the temple bell at night. Your guide will share the story behind this poem and explain how Suzhou's landscapes inspired countless writers and artists throughout history.
Afterwards, enjoy lunch at a local restaurant before exploring the Suzhou Grand Canal area. As one of the most important sections of the ancient Grand Canal, this area reflects the close connection between water transportation, trade, and Suzhou's development.
The afternoon is flexible. Depending on your interests, we can arrange free time for shopping, a tea house visit, or a relaxed walk around Suzhou's old streets. Your guide will recommend places that match your preferences rather than taking you to commercial stops.
After spending several days exploring the elegant gardens and historic streets of Suzhou, today you'll continue your Jiangnan journey to Wuxi, a city famous for its beautiful lakes, mountains, and Buddhist culture.
After breakfast, your private driver and guide will pick you up from your Suzhou hotel and drive you to Wuxi by private car. The journey takes around 1–1.5 hours. Along the way, you'll leave behind Suzhou's narrow canals and ancient neighborhoods and gradually enter a more open landscape surrounded by countryside views and Taihu Lake scenery.
Upon arrival in Wuxi, enjoy lunch at a local restaurant. Our guide will help you choose authentic Wuxi dishes based on your preferences, including the city's famous sweet-style cuisine and local specialties. Unlike tourist restaurants, we focus on places that offer a genuine local dining experience.
After lunch, visit Lingshan Grand Buddha, one of the most impressive cultural landmarks in the Jiangnan region. Standing at 88 meters high, the bronze Buddha overlooks the surrounding mountains and lake, creating a peaceful atmosphere that feels very different from the busy city attractions. During your visit, your guide will introduce the history of Chinese Buddhism, explain the meaning behind the temple architecture, and help you understand the cultural details that you might otherwise miss.
Beyond the giant Buddha itself, the Lingshan Scenic Area features beautifully designed Buddhist palaces, traditional gardens, and impressive cultural performances. We'll arrange the visit at a comfortable pace, allowing you enough time to appreciate the architecture, take photos, and enjoy the tranquil surroundings.
Later in the afternoon, continue to Taihu Lake, one of China's largest freshwater lakes. The lake scenery is especially charming in the late afternoon when the sunlight reflects on the water and the distant hills create a peaceful Jiangnan landscape.
Depending on the season and weather conditions, your guide will recommend the best viewing spots for sunset photos or a relaxing lakeside walk.
After the tour, your driver will take you to your Wuxi hotel for a comfortable evening.
Today, you'll leave the peaceful lake scenery of Wuxi and continue your journey to Nanjing, one of China's most historically significant cities.
After breakfast, your private driver will pick you up from your hotel and transfer you to Nanjing by private car. The journey takes around 2–2.5 hours. During the drive, your guide will share stories about Nanjing's role as an ancient capital and explain how the city connects China's imperial past with modern history.
After arriving in Nanjing, enjoy lunch at a carefully selected local restaurant. Nanjing has its own unique food culture, and your guide can recommend must-try dishes such as Nanjing salted duck, duck blood soup, and traditional local snacks depending on your taste.
In the afternoon, begin exploring the historic heart of Nanjing. Your first stop is Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum, located in the beautiful Purple Mountain Scenic Area. Surrounded by lush forests and peaceful mountain scenery, the mausoleum combines natural beauty with important historical meaning. As you walk up the famous stone staircase, your guide will explain the story of Sun Yat-sen and why this place holds such an important position in modern Chinese history. The surrounding scenery also makes it one of the best places in Nanjing for photography.
Next, visit the Ming City Wall, one of the largest and best-preserved ancient city walls in China. Unlike many historical sites that can only be viewed from the outside, here you can actually walk along the wall and enjoy panoramic views of old and modern Nanjing.
Standing on the ancient wall, you'll see the contrast between centuries-old city defenses, peaceful lakes, and the modern skyline — a perfect reflection of Nanjing's history and transformation.
In the evening, continue to the lively Confucius Temple (Fuzimiao) area, located along the Qinhuai River. When the lights come on, traditional buildings, river boats, and lantern reflections create one of Nanjing's most beautiful night scenes. Your guide will help you explore beyond the main streets, showing you local snack shops and quieter corners while sharing stories about the ancient imperial examination culture that made this area famous.
After the tour, your driver will transfer you back to your hotel.
After breakfast, enjoy a relaxed morning in Nanjing before beginning your journey back to Shanghai. Depending on your departure schedule, we can arrange a comfortable transfer directly to Shanghai Airport or Shanghai train station.
The drive from Nanjing to Shanghai takes around 3–3.5 hours. During the journey, you can sit back and enjoy the changing scenery from historic Jiangnan cities to the modern Shanghai skyline. If your departure is later in the day, we can also help arrange an optional stop based on your interests, such as a short visit in Shanghai or additional sightseeing before heading to the airport.
Throughout the entire journey, our team will take care of every detail — from private transportation and hotel transfers to attraction planning and local recommendations — so you can enjoy East China at a comfortable pace without worrying about logistics.
From the peaceful canals of Zhouzhuang to the gardens of Suzhou, the lake views of Wuxi, and the historical atmosphere of Nanjing, this 7-day journey offers a complete introduction to the beauty and culture of Jiangnan.

Combining Yangshuo Tour with Other Destinations
Hi Amara,
Thank you for your message! The ideal length of stay in Yangshuo depends on your travel style, but we're happy to share some suggestions.
1. A one-day trip is enough to experience the most iconic highlights, including the Yulong River scenery, West Street area, and countryside landscapes. It is a great option for travelers staying in Guilin with limited time.
2. Longji and Yangshuo are located in different directions, so combining both in one day would make the schedule too rushed. We usually recommend arranging them as separate day trips or adding an extra night.
3. If you have more time, staying overnight allows you to enjoy Yangshuo's relaxed evening atmosphere, local restaurants, and countryside scenery without rushing back to Guilin.
Questions About Sunrise, Photography & Best Hiking Route
Hi Isolde,
Thank you for your message! We're glad to hear that you're interested in this Huangshan journey. Huangshan is one of the best destinations in China for sunrise and landscape photography, and we'd be happy to help you arrange a route that balances beautiful views and comfortable walking.
1. The sunrise viewpoint depends on your hotel location and weather conditions, but popular options include Bright Summit and areas near Beihai.
2. Yes, we can adjust the route according to your interests. Bright Summit is one of Huangshan’s classic viewpoints, while Xihai Scenic Area offers some of the most dramatic mountain landscapes. We can recommend the best combination based on your hiking preference and available time.
3. The hiking distance depends on the route selected. The classic Back Mountain route after taking the Yungu Cable Car is relatively comfortable, while some areas such as Xihai involve more stairs and longer walking. Our guide can help adjust the pace during the tour.
4. Usually, we recommend starting early to enjoy the quieter mountain atmosphere and better lighting for photography. The exact timing will depend on the sunrise time and weather conditions.
We hope you enjoy capturing the most beautiful moments of Huangshan!
