Day 1 Beijing: Bell and Drum Towers Hutongs, Jingshan Park & Shichahai

Accommodation Accommodation:
4 star/5 star hotel/botique hotel (can be customized)
MealMeal:
Meals are flexible and can be included or excluded. When included, authentic local dining will be arranged.

After arriving in Beijing, your private driver will meet you at the airport or railway station and transfer you comfortably to your hotel. We intentionally keep the first day relaxed. After all, Beijing wasn't built to be understood in a hurry. Most first-time visitors arrive expecting grand palaces and monumental squares. Those places are certainly important, but we like to begin somewhere more personal.

This afternoon, we'll step into the historic neighborhoods surrounding the Bell and Drum Towers, where Beijing's old heartbeat can still be heard. Centuries ago, the booming drum signals from these towers dictated daily life for everyone inside the city walls. Today, the towers no longer control the clock, but the surrounding hutongs continue to preserve a slower rhythm that feels surprisingly untouched by the modern metropolis beyond. As we wander through narrow alleyways, you'll notice details that many visitors miss: elderly residents playing cards beneath grapevine-covered courtyards, tiny family-run shops selling snacks from recipes passed down for generations, and bicycles leaning against weathered grey-brick walls that have witnessed countless seasons of change. Rather than rushing from attraction to attraction, we'll take time to explore these small moments that reveal how Beijing is actually lived.

By late afternoon, we'll make our way to Jingshan Park. The climb is short, but the reward is unforgettable. Standing atop the hill, the entire Forbidden City suddenly appears below like an enormous golden chessboard stretching toward the horizon. The symmetry is astonishing. From here, Beijing's famous Central Axis becomes perfectly visible, revealing the remarkable urban planning that shaped China's capital for hundreds of years. As the sun begins to descend, the rooftops of the palace glow in shades of amber and gold. Locals often come here simply to enjoy the view, and it's easy to understand why.

We'll end the evening at nearby Shichahai, where willow-lined lakes, traditional courtyard homes and softly illuminated bridges create one of Beijing's most atmospheric settings. Street musicians occasionally gather along the waterfront, locals stroll beneath lanterns, and restaurants begin filling with evening conversations. Dinner tonight is a chance to enjoy authentic Beijing cuisine away from the tourist crowds. Whether it's traditional roast duck, handmade dumplings or local barbecue, we'll happily point you toward some of our favorite neighborhood spots.

Afterward, your driver will return you to the hotel. The imperial capital can wait until tomorrow, tonight is about meeting the city behind the postcards.

Day 2 Beijing: Tiananmen Square, Forbidden City & Mutianyu Great Wall

Accommodation Accommodation:
4 star/5 star hotel/botique hotel (can be customized)
MealMeal:
Meals are flexible and can be included or excluded. When included, authentic local dining will be arranged.

After breakfast, your guide and driver will meet you at the hotel for a day dedicated to two of China's most iconic landmarks.

Our morning begins at Tiananmen Square before entering the magnificent Forbidden City through the Meridian Gate. For nearly five centuries, this vast palace complex served as the political heart of imperial China and the residence of 24 emperors. Rather than simply walking through the main halls, we'll take time to explore the fascinating details hidden throughout the palace. Your guide will reveal the meanings behind imperial symbols, explain how architecture reinforced political authority, and share stories of powerful rulers, ambitious empresses and court intrigue that shaped Chinese history. As we move from grand ceremonial courtyards to quieter residential quarters and peaceful palace gardens, you'll gain a deeper understanding of life within what was once the most exclusive address in the empire.

After lunch at a carefully selected local restaurant, we'll leave the city behind and travel north toward the mountains. The scenery gradually changes as forests replace urban skylines and rolling ridges appear on the horizon. Then, almost unexpectedly, the Great Wall emerges, stretching dramatically across the mountaintops.

We choose Mutianyu because it offers one of the most scenic and enjoyable Great Wall experiences near Beijing. Surrounded by dense woodland and rugged peaks, this section combines spectacular views with a more relaxed atmosphere than some of the busier sections. Walking along the ancient stone pathway, you'll pass watchtowers, climb staircases worn smooth by time and enjoy panoramic mountain views in every direction. Whether you're capturing photographs or simply pausing to appreciate the scale of the landscape, this is often one of the most memorable moments of the entire trip.

As the afternoon light softens across the mountains, we'll return to Beijing and transfer you back to your hotel.

Day 3 Beijing → Shanghai (by high-speed train): Temple of Heaven, 798 Art District & The Bund

Accommodation Accommodation:
4 star/5 star hotel/botique hotel (can be customized)
MealMeal:
Meals are flexible and can be included or excluded. When included, authentic local dining will be arranged.

This morning introduces yet another side of Beijing. After hotel pickup, we'll head to the Temple of Heaven, one of China's most remarkable architectural masterpieces. Unlike the Forbidden City, which symbolized earthly power, this sacred complex represented the connection between heaven and earth. Arriving early allows us to experience one of Beijing's most authentic daily traditions. Beneath centuries-old cypress trees, local residents gather to practice tai chi, perform traditional music, dance and exercise. For many visitors, this glimpse into everyday life becomes one of the most memorable experiences of the journey. As we explore the temple grounds, your guide will explain how emperors once traveled here to perform elaborate ceremonies intended to ensure prosperity and harmony throughout the empire.

After lunch, we'll leave imperial China behind and step into contemporary Beijing at the famous 798 Art District. Once a collection of state-owned factories, the district has evolved into China's leading creative hub. Industrial buildings now house contemporary galleries, design studios, independent bookstores and stylish cafés. The contrast with the morning's historical sites couldn't be greater, offering fascinating insight into the creativity and innovation shaping modern China.

Later in the afternoon, we'll transfer you to Beijing Railway Station and assist with boarding your high-speed train to Shanghai. The journey itself becomes part of the adventure. Within just a few hours, you'll travel between two cities that represent very different faces of China.

Upon arrival in Shanghai, your local driver will meet you at the station and escort you directly to your hotel. If time allows, we'll enjoy a short introductory walk along the Bund, where Shanghai's illuminated skyline provides a spectacular welcome to the city.

Day 4 Shanghai: Yu Garden, City God Temple, French Concession, Wukang Road & The Bund

Accommodation Accommodation:
4 star/5 star hotel/botique hotel (can be customized)
MealMeal:
Meals are flexible and can be included or excluded. When included, authentic local dining will be arranged.

Today is all about discovering the many personalities of Shanghai. After breakfast, your guide and driver will meet you at the hotel before we begin in the heart of the Old City at Yu Garden. Built during the Ming Dynasty, Yu Garden is a masterpiece of classical Chinese landscape design. Winding pathways lead through elegant pavilions, koi-filled ponds, decorative rockeries and hidden courtyards. Every corner reveals a new perspective, carefully designed to create harmony between architecture and nature.

Outside the garden, we'll explore the lively streets surrounding the City God Temple area. Food stalls, traditional shops and local markets create a vibrant atmosphere that offers a glimpse into Shanghai's past before it became a global financial center.

Lunch today is the perfect opportunity to sample some of Shanghai's most famous dishes, including Xiaolongbao soup dumplings and traditional Shanghainese specialties.

In the afternoon, the city's character changes completely as we enter the former French Concession. Shaded by beautiful plane trees, this elegant district feels worlds away from the bustling Old City. Historic villas, Art Deco architecture, boutique cafés and charming side streets tell the story of Shanghai's international past.

We'll continue to Wukang Road and nearby neighborhoods, where old-world charm blends seamlessly with modern urban life. It's one of the city's most photogenic areas and a favorite among locals.

As evening approaches, we'll arrive at the Bund. This is where Shanghai truly shines. On one side stand magnificent historic buildings that once housed banks, trading companies and consulates. Across the Huangpu River rises the futuristic skyline of Pudong, where glittering skyscrapers dominate the horizon. As darkness falls and thousands of lights illuminate the city, the contrast between old and new creates one of the most iconic urban views in Asia.

After dinner, your driver will return you comfortably to your hotel.

Day 5 Shanghai: Shanghai Tower & Tianzifang

Accommodation Accommodation:
N/A (Flexible, can be included based on your needs)
MealMeal:
Meals are flexible and can be included or excluded. When included, authentic local dining will be arranged.

After breakfast and hotel pickup, we'll begin your final day with a visit to Shanghai Tower, one of the tallest buildings in the world. Ascending to the observation deck offers a remarkable perspective over the city. From above, you'll see the Huangpu River weaving between historic districts and modern skyscrapers, illustrating Shanghai's incredible transformation over the past century.

Returning to street level, we'll continue to Tianzifang, one of Shanghai's most beloved creative neighborhoods. Hidden among traditional Shikumen lane houses, you'll find independent galleries, artisan boutiques, cafés and workshops that showcase the city's creative spirit. Unlike large commercial shopping districts, Tianzifang rewards slow exploration. Around every corner is something unexpected—a local artist's studio, a hidden courtyard café or a small shop selling handcrafted goods.

After a relaxed farewell lunch, you'll have time to enjoy the atmosphere before your private driver transfers you to Shanghai Airport or railway station for your onward journey. As your journey comes to an end, you'll leave with more than photographs. You'll have experienced two cities that define modern China in very different ways—one rooted in imperial history, the other constantly reinventing itself for the future. Together, they tell a story that no single city could tell alone.

A peaceful escape from Hangzhou

We wanted to visit Putuo Mountain but were worried about the complicated transportation connections from Hangzhou. This private tour made everything much easier. The driver picked us up from our hotel in the morning, helped us with the ferry transfer, and explained what to expect before arriving on the island. Putuo Mountain itself was beautiful and peaceful. Walking through the temples surrounded by trees and hearing the ocean nearby was a very special experience. We never felt rushed, which made the trip much more enjoyable.

Questions about Putuo Island

Hi, I'm interested in this private tour because we would like to experience the cultural side of Putuo Island rather than just visit the famous spots. I have a few questions:
1. Are the temples on Putuo Island very crowded? Is there a better time of day to visit them?
2. Do we need to follow any special rules when visiting Buddhist temples?
3. Will we have time to enjoy the seaside scenery, or is the itinerary mainly focused on temples?

Hi Caelan,
Thank you for your questions! We really appreciate that you are interested in experiencing the deeper cultural side of Putuo Island. It is not only a Buddhist destination but also a beautiful island with forests, beaches, and coastal scenery.
1. The main temples, especially Puji Temple, can become busy during weekends and holiday periods. To provide a better experience, our guide will usually arrange the sightseeing order according to crowd levels and opening times, allowing you to enjoy quieter moments whenever possible.
2. There are no strict requirements for visitors, but we recommend dressing respectfully and keeping a quieter atmosphere inside the temples. Our guide will also explain some local customs and interesting stories behind the temples, making the visit more meaningful.
3. Absolutely. Besides temples, Putuo Island is famous for its beautiful coastline and natural landscapes. We will include time for seaside walks, scenic viewpoints, and relaxed moments by the ocean, so the experience is not only cultural but also enjoyable.

We would be happy to help you discover a more authentic side of Putuo Island!

One of the best nature trips we have taken in China

Guizhou was a fantastic choice for travelers who want something different from the usual China itinerary. Libo Xiaoqikong was like a natural paradise — clear rivers, waterfalls, and green forests everywhere.
The communication before the trip was excellent. The team answered our questions quickly and helped us prepare for the journey. During the tour, everything was organized but still felt flexible and personal.

A wonderful journey

We traveled as a family and were impressed by how smoothly everything was arranged. The route included beautiful landscapes but was not too exhausting. My favorite part was probably the evening in Huanggang Village. It was very different from the places we had visited before — quiet, traditional, and welcoming. We really enjoyed learning about Dong culture from our guide.
Thank you for making our Guizhou trip so comfortable and memorable.
