Our guide will recommend authentic local restaurants with traditional cuisine and regional flavors.

Your Nanjing adventure begins with a convenient pickup from your Shanghai hotel. Our driver will meet you at your hotel lobby and transfer you comfortably to the railway station, where you will board the bullet train to Nanjing. After arriving in Nanjing, your private driver will take you to Purple Mountain Scenic Area (approx. 30-min drive), the heart of Nanjing's most significant imperial and cultural heritage.

Pay Homage at Dr. Sun Yat-sen's Mausoleum (or Visit Meiling Palace)
First, visit Dr. Sun Yat-sen's Mausoleum. This is the most solemn republican architectural landmark in China, featuring symmetrical neoclassical design and 392 layered granite steps leading to the summit. From the top, you'll enjoy a panoramic view of Nanjing city and Purple Mountain. Your professional English-speaking guide will provide in-depth historical interpretation of Dr. Sun Yat-sen's revolutionary legacy and the architectural significance of this modern monument.

If it's Monday (Mausoleum closed), the alternative is Meiling Palace — a stunning Sino-Western fusion villa famously known for its iconic aerial view resembling a "plane-tree necklace." This elegant Republican-era residence offers a glimpse into the lives of Chiang Kai-shek and Soong Mei-ling, with beautifully preserved interiors and exquisite architecture.

Stroll the Sacred Way of Ming Xiaoling Mausoleum
Next, proceed to Ming Xiaoling Mausoleum, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the burial site of the Hongwu Emperor, founder of the Ming Dynasty. Walk along the Sacred Way (Stone Elephant Road), lined with 600-year-old stone guardian animals and civil/military officials — masterpieces of Ming stone carving art. In autumn, the maple and ginkgo trees flanking the path create a stunning golden canopy, making it a paradise for photographers.

Walk Through the Historic Defense Gateway of Zhonghua Gate
After lunch (recommend trying local Nanjing specialties such as Nanjing Salted Duck and Duck Blood Vermicelli Soup at a restaurant near Purple Mountain), visit Zhonghua Gate (Gate of China) . This is the largest and best-preserved ancient castle-style city gate in China, representing the pinnacle of Ming dynasty military architecture. The gate features a complex structure of three barbican courtyards and four gate passages, earning it the title "Number One Barbican under Heaven." You can walk along the top of the city wall and enjoy unique views where ancient city defenses blend with modern Nanjing's skyline. Look closely at the bricks — many still bear the original Ming dynasty craftsmen's inscriptions, each brick carrying a piece of history.

Experience Evening Charm at Confucius Temple and Qinhuai River
In the late afternoon, head to the Confucius Temple (Fuzimiao) — Qinhuai River Cultural Belt, the historic heart of Nanjing's Six Dynasties culture and Ming-Qing folk heritage. Visit the Confucius Temple complex to learn about traditional Confucian education and the ancient imperial examination system. Stroll through the Qinhuai Ancient Street, with its blue-brick buildings, tiled roofs, stone bridges, and lively waterfront lanes lined with traditional handicraft studios, time-honored snack shops, and cultural exhibition spaces.

Optional Experience: Take a Qinhuai River Night Boat Cruise — drift along the lantern-lit river in a traditional wooden boat, with ancient pavilions and arched bridges reflecting in the shimmering water. This is the most romantic way to experience the "Land of Six Dynasties' Golden Powder" poetry and charm.

After the tour, your driver will take you back to Nanjing Railway Station according to your bullet train schedule. You will return to Shanghai comfortably by high-speed train, where our local driver will meet you and transfer you back to your hotel.

Much more fun than I expected

I booked this mostly because my husband is obsessed with anything involving AI, but I ended up enjoying it just as much. The driverless taxi was the biggest surprise — sitting inside and watching the car make its own decisions felt a little strange at first! The robot dog was also hilarious. Our guide explained things without making it feel like a technology lecture, which I really appreciated.

Thanks, Eamon! We love hearing that the tour surprised you in the best way. The driverless taxi can feel a little odd at first, but once you settle in, it's a pretty memorable experience. Glad you both had fun exploring Shenzhen's tech side!

The trains made the route surprisingly easy

I had never traveled around China by high-speed train before, so I wasn't sure what to expect. Once we got the hang of it, it was actually one of the easiest parts of the trip. Having someone meet us at the stations was especially helpful because some of the stations are enormous. We could just get off the train, find our driver and move on.

Thanks, Marlowe! Glad to hear our train journeys turned out to be easier than expected. Those big stations can definitely feel a bit overwhelming at first, so it's great to hear that having our driver there made things smoother. Hope you enjoyed the rest of the trip!

A Photographer's Kind of Day

If you like old architecture, bring a camera. Badaguan was probably my favorite part because every street seemed to have a slightly different look. The church and railway station were also great photo stops. I liked that the tour wasn't only about famous sights — there was plenty of time to notice small details along the way.

Thanks, Soren! We're delighted that the architectural side of Qingdao caught your eye. The city has so many small details that are easy to miss when you're in a hurry.

Definitely earned its reputation

I knew Mount Tai would be the big highlight for me, but it was still better than expected. The views kept changing as we went higher, and there was something really special about seeing the old temples and inscriptions along the mountain. The whole trip was also very well organized. We had enough time at each place without feeling like we were constantly watching the clock.
